In 1990, Mike and Connie decided to establish a new product line, pottery that felt and looked Canadian. All of their past experiences, from Art College, to Dramatic Arts, to living in the near north came into play to create this new pottery design. What resulted was a natural clay hand stamped with a loon motif on pottery that would be used daily; a kind of rustic and refined stoneware. Celebrating 35 years in a 100 year old School House, Mike and Connie Leishman established their pottery business in Cobalt, ON in 1975. In 1979, with their three young daughters, they settled in their Stayner School House. 35 years later, it is the home of several distinct lines of pottery and a multitude of dear customers, friends and collectors.
The Leishman's commitment to become truly Canadian Pottery, now in its second generation has been established. The Leishman's offer a line of pottery that symbolizes, to them, the feeling of Canada. Using Canadian icons from wildlife and nature having an inspirational vitality can be drawn upon by anyone using these pots. "To go through your life as a maker of things, a potter, artist, must feel comfortable in their medium as well as their artistic cravings being fulfilled in using their medium. Pottery is our medium."
