Hand building with Clay with Heather Kerslake

**This course will be held at the Kerslake Pottery Studio on Line 10 North at Horseshoe Valley Road, Oro-Medonte

Participants will work with Heather Kerslake at her studio to learn various clay techniques in order to build creative clay forms. Working with slabs, coils and more, students will be introduced to how different tools can be used to shape and mark clay to create patterns, textures or narratives. After firing, Heather will teach the class how to use stains and glazes to alter the surface and add colour to your work.

Bio:
Heather Driver Kerslake works mainly in terra cotta, producing pieces that are whimsical, often mythical, and sometimes humorous. Her work involves functional pottery and sculptural pieces, ranging in scale from majolica-decorated wine goblets to larger hand-built narrative sculptures. Heather graduated from Alfred University, New York. Her work is in numerous private collections and public galleries, and has been exhibited widely.

Materials to be supplied by student: apron, sketchbook, pencil, eraser

Join Murray van Halem and let loose on canvas! In this hands-on workshop series Murray will teach you about how to loosen up while landscape painting. This course will review and utilize a variety of painting elements including principles of perspective, design, colour theory, and colour mixing. Working from reference photos (participants and/or instructor provided), you will create a number of landscape paintings.
Murray will share techniques which he has acquired through his 45 year career as a visual artist. By the end of this program, participants will have completed a series of paintings to take home.
Participants are required to bring their own painting supplies. Material list will be provided upon registration.
