The textile collection at OMAH is getting a makeover!
Throughout the summer, we worked hard to create a more suitable home for the textiles in the permanent collection. This was achieved in part through the generosity of the Canadian Government with the Museum Assistance Program granted earlier this summer, as well as a lot of hard work by our student staff.
Kicking off October 1st, the Orillia Museum of Art & History will be hosting a new series introducing new artists, trends, techniques, and technologies in the gallery. OMAH Curator, Matt Macintosh will discuss the Canadian Landscape in contemporary art with Michael Farnan, a visiting artist and scholar. Farnan's work includes video, sculpture, painting, photography, installation, and performance.
On August 23rd, the 3rd Annual Jenkins/Bayne Invitational Croquet Tournament was held at Hammock Harbour Resort. Two rounds of game were played before very close semi-finals and the tournament winning game. With participants of all ages and levels of experience, $1800 in proceeds were raised for OMAH.
Thank you to Don Jenkins, Bruce Bayne, Mac Carter and their families for their support for the tournament!
Congratulations to the tournament winner, Alex Bayne, from the Bayne Team!
After a summer of fabulous creative art camps at the museum, another school year is upon us and OMAH has polished our Education Programs for teachers and educators. Quality programming has been established that reflections both Canadian and local art and history.
