Deadline Approaching for Mulcahy Publishing Initiative

The Orillia Museum of Art and History is currently accepting submissions for an exciting new program, the Mulcahy Publishing Initiative.

The Initiative is named in honour of the Mulcahy family, who have been active members of the Orillia community for generations. In recognition of their generous and long-time support of OMAH as the cultural and heritage hub of the Orillia area, the Mulcahy Publishing Initiative seeks to support local writers and add to public knowledge of local history by facilitating the publication of one new local history book each year. The Initiative launched in 2018 with the publication of the book The Incredible Younkers by Dave Town.

Each year, OMAH will announce a call for proposals for books about or involving the history of this area. Submissions will then be evaluated and a winner may be selected. OMAH staff and volunteers will assist in all the work of preparing a winning book for publication, and OMAH will pay to have one production run of the book printed, with options for printing additional runs in the future.

Eligible books for the Initiative include not only non-fiction but also historical fiction, children’s books, and art and poetry collections with a historical theme. To be eligible for this program, books must also be set in the Orillia area (including the Townships of Severn, Ramara, and Chippewas of Rama First Nation as well as the City of Orillia).

The call for submissions for 2019 was issued on December 23.. The submission deadline is January 31.

If you or someone you know might be interested in submitting work to this Initiative or are otherwise interested in getting involved, see details on OMAH’s website here:
