The 20th Annual Sir John A. Macdonald Dinner is hosted by OMAH's History Committee and will celebrate Canada and being Canadian. Please note this year's new venue at Hawk Ridge Golf Club.
We welcome Sally Armstrong, author, journalist and human rights activist as the evening’s guest speaker. She will present "Canada - Who Do We Think We Are? The sometimes shocking and often surprising, occasionally disturbing and always changing character called Canada".
Journalist, award-winning author and human rights activist Sally Armstrong has covered stories about women and girls in zones of conflict worldwide. Her eye witness reports have earned her numerous awards.
Sally was a member of the United Nations International Women’s Commission, a U.N. body whose mandate was promoting peace in the Middle East. Some of her many honors include: the Calgary Peace Prize in 2010, honorable mentions in the Multi Media category of the News Photographs Association of Canada for the “Real Faces of ISIS” in 2016, and in June 2017 she received the David Greb Award for Social Justice Writing. Sally is the recipient of ten honorary doctorate degrees and is a Member of the Order of Canada
Sally has published a number of books including, “Veiled Threat – The Hidden Power of the Women of Afghanistan”, “The Nine Lives of Charlotte Taylor,” “Bitter Roots, Tender Shoots: The Uncertain Fate of Afghanistan’s Women”. Her new book “Ascent of Women” was published by Random House in March 2013. A revised version entitled “Uprising: A new age is dawning for every mother’s daughter” was published in March 2014 by St. Martins Press in New York.
