Sir John A. Macdonald & His Era
The Orillia Museum of Art & History presents an historical exhibition commemorating the bicentennial of the birth of John Alexander Macdonald, first Prime Minister of Canada. Produced by the John A. Macdonald 200 Committee this new multi-media display explores themes linking the Canada of the mid-19th century to the Canada of today.
Alongside portrayals of the life and times of Sir John A. Macdonald, the exhibition explores settler society, the building of the Transcontinental Railway and the romantic dream of adventuring westward. Explored, too are the effects of westward expansion on Indigenous populations and the cultural, political and ecological upheaval that remains to this day.
