Melody Lynn Madden: Exquisite to Sublime

Exhibition
Date:
Saturday, July 20, 2019 to Sunday, September 22, 2019

The suite of works in Exquisite to Sublime will provide a glimpse of Melody’s development as an artist.   She began her professional artistic journey in textiles. Having grown up watching her grandmother embroider instilled a value of working with her hands.  Her free motion embroidered works are a stage in her seamless transition into painting with oils and acrylics. Her paintings can be as both calm and introspective and powerfully emotional and invoking a sense of freedom.

I feel as if I paint places I would like to step into... places that not only inspire but comfort me. – Melody Lynn Madden

Melody Lynn Madden was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario but now makes her home in Muskoka. Surrounded by trees and sky, two major themes in her work, her studio provides the perfect spot to be inspired.

"I believe the sky holds untold stories...

For me it is a metaphor for life ...

From colour drenched sunsets that instill a sense of peace, calm, and reflection, brilliant sunrises that bring with them the opportunity to see the day with renewed possibility and hope, stormy skies that unsettle us but unite us in our common struggles .... our humanity ... and the way in which the wind moves, always the way the wind moves.....and with it our emotions.

Self- taught, Melody worked in mixed media and textiles for fifteen years before being wooed by paint. Her work is held in private and corporate collections. In 2016, she was the art instructor for youth at The Orillia Museum of Art & History.
